Sedimentology and petroleum geology equipment includes:

  • Nikon and Zeiss high-magnification transmitted and reflected light microscopes
  • Rigaku Miniflex X-ray diffractometer system with six-position sample interchange and Jade spectra software analysis system
  • Cathodoluminescence microscope system (Technosyn 8200 MkII and Nuclide ELM-2)
  • Rock cutting room
  • Storage room with extensive sediment core collection

Paleontology equipment includes:

  • 975 sq. ft. paleontology laboratory with >5,000 microfossil, macrofossil and trace fossil collections
  • Nikon Eclipse 50iPOL microscope with a Nikon DS-Fi1 Digital Sight Camera connected to a Dell computer with NIS Elements D 3.2 software
  • Nikon Optiphot-Pol microscope with Normarski differential interference contrast, and Q-Imaging MicroPublisher 3.3 digital camera
  • 14 Nikon, Zeiss and Leica research microscopes (with 100X objectives), digital cameras and video monitors
  • 15 assorted low-magnification microscopes, one with a digital camera
  • iMac 8.3 desktop, Apple G5 and Dell computers and scanner
  • Palynological processing lab with vacuum and isolation hood and large-capacity centrifuge (housed within the 1,450 sq. ft. geochemistry laboratory)
